1. Introduction
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Tutor Volt platform, available at tutorvolt.ai and tutorvolt.co.uk (the "Platform"), operated by Tutor Volt Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales ("we", "us", "our", "Tutor Volt").
By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.
If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or legal guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf before you may use the Platform. If you are under 13, a parent or legal guardian must create your account and provide verified parental consent.
2. Platform Description
Tutor Volt is an AI-powered educational platform designed for UK schools and families, serving students aged 5 to 16. The Platform provides:
- AI-generated lesson content created using artificial intelligence and reviewed by qualified teachers before publication
- AI Tutor Chat ("Live Wire") for interactive, personalised learning support
- Quizzes, flashcards, and mind maps generated and adapted using AI
- Progress tracking and analytics for students, teachers, parents, and school administrators
- Gamification features including XP, levels, streaks, and achievements
- Voice interaction including speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities
Important: All educational content on the Platform is generated by artificial intelligence (Claude by Anthropic) and is intended to supplement, not replace, qualified human teaching. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies and is reviewed by teachers before publication. Tutor Volt does not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated material.
3. Account Types and Eligibility
3.1 Account Types
The Platform supports four account types:
- Student Account -- For learners aged 5 to 16 enrolled through a school or registered by a parent.
- Teacher Account -- For qualified educators who create, review, and publish lesson content.
- Parent Account -- For parents or legal guardians who oversee their child's learning and manage consent.
- Administrator Account -- For school staff who manage institutional accounts, users, and settings.
3.2 Age Requirements
- Users aged 13 and over may create an account with their school's or parent's authorisation.
- Users under 13 require verified parental consent. A parent or legal guardian must create the account and provide consent for data processing.
- All users under 18 are considered minors and are subject to additional protections as described in our Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy Policy.
3.3 Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You must not share your account with any other person. You agree to notify us immediately at [email protected] if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
4. Acceptable Conduct
All users must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In summary:
- You must not use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could harm, disable, or impair the Platform.
- You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform or its systems.
- You must not harass, bully, intimidate, or abuse other users.
- You must not upload or transmit harmful, offensive, or illegal content.
- You must not attempt to manipulate, deceive, or circumvent the AI safety systems.
Breach of the Acceptable Use Policy may result in warnings, account restrictions, suspension, or termination.
5. Subscriptions and Payment
5.1 Subscription Plans
Access to certain features of the Platform requires a paid subscription. Details of available plans and pricing are published on our website and may change from time to time.
5.2 Payment Processing
All payments are processed securely by Stripe, Inc. We do not store your full payment card details on our servers. By subscribing, you authorise Stripe to charge your chosen payment method on a recurring basis.
5.3 Free Trials
Where a free trial is offered, you will not be charged during the trial period. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will begin and you will be charged at the applicable rate.
5.4 Cancellation and Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer pro-rata refunds for partial billing periods.
For school and institutional subscriptions, cancellation terms are governed by the separate service agreement between Tutor Volt and the subscribing institution.
5.5 Consumer Rights
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you are a consumer and the digital content we provide is faulty, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Our Content
The Platform, its design, features, software, and all content created or curated by Tutor Volt (including AI-generated lesson materials) are owned by or licensed to Tutor Volt Ltd. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our prior written consent.
6.2 User-Generated Content
You retain ownership of any content you create on the Platform (such as teacher-authored materials or student submissions). By uploading content, you grant Tutor Volt a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, store, and display that content solely for the purpose of providing the Platform services.
All content you create on the Platform remains your intellectual property. We do not use student submissions, teacher-authored materials, or any user-generated content to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models. Our AI provider (Anthropic) contractually commits that data sent via their API is not used for model training.
6.3 AI-Generated Content
Content generated by the AI system is provided for your personal educational use. You may use AI-generated lesson content, quizzes, and flashcards for your own learning or teaching purposes, but you may not resell or commercially redistribute such content.
7. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
Tutor Volt uses artificial intelligence to generate educational content including lessons, quizzes, flashcards, mind maps, and chat responses. While we take reasonable steps to ensure quality, including teacher review before publication:
- AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions.
- AI-generated content should not be relied upon as the sole source of educational instruction.
- The AI tutor chat provides general educational guidance and is not a substitute for professional teaching.
- AI-generated grade predictions are indicative only and should not be treated as definitive assessments.

8. Limitation of Liability
8.1 Exclusions We Cannot Make
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
8.2 Our Liability to You
Subject to clause 8.1, our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Platform shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred pounds sterling (GBP 100).
8.3 Exclusion of Indirect Loss
Subject to clause 8.1, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Platform.
8.4 Service Availability
We do not guarantee that the Platform will be available at all times or without interruption. We may suspend access for maintenance, updates, or for reasons beyond our reasonable control.
9. Safeguarding
Tutor Volt is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of all children who use the Platform. Our safeguarding measures include:
- Real-time AI-powered content monitoring of all student interactions
- Automated escalation of safeguarding concerns to our Designated Safeguarding Lead
- DBS verification requirements for marketplace tutors
- Compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025

10. Data Protection
We process personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Please read our Privacy Policy (and the Children's Privacy Policy for users under 16) for full details of how we collect, use, store, and protect your data.
Schools using the Platform are data controllers for their students' data, and Tutor Volt acts as a data processor. Our Data Processing Agreement governs this relationship.
11. Termination
11.1 Your Right to Terminate
You may close your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected] or through your account settings.
11.2 Our Right to Terminate
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, our Acceptable Use Policy, or if required to do so by law. Where practicable, we will give you reasonable notice before termination.
11.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately. We will retain your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy retention schedule. You may request export of your data before account closure.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes at least 30 days before they take effect, by email or through the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Platform before the effective date.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that nothing prevents you from bringing proceedings in the courts of your country of residence if you are a consumer.
14. General
- Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, Cookie Policy, and AI Usage Disclosure, constitute the entire agreement between you and Tutor Volt.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
- Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
- Assignment: You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
